THE PASSIONS PROJECT is a nationally recognized portrait series created by Racine native, professional photographer, and art activist, Heidi Wagner. Since 2011, the project has highlighted older adults engaging in their passions as a way of redefining aging. Heidi's vision for the project evolved through her work in a community of elders wherein she realized many of the people she encountered and came to know lead active, full lives, and that through photographing these older adults in the midst of actively living out their passions, she could share a very new view of aging. Through Heidi’s lens we have the opportunity to see aging as an exciting time filled with vitality and wellness, wherein each day ahead has purpose. To date, through THE PASSIONS PROJECT, Heidi has worked with over 20 senior communities and hundreds of individuals across the US. She has been a guest speaker at events and has presented at several conferences, including Optimal Aging Conference (2020) and LeadingAge California (2019).

As the project turns its focus towards other historically underrepresented groups, Wagner aims to expand her work through THE PASSIONS MOVEMENT. Heidi is partnering with a number of local organizations to capture the stories and passions of local multigenerational queer persons, as well as BIPOC youth in art-based community impact collaborations. The photo installations will provide a dynamic platform in which to ignite social change through increasing community awareness, connection, inclusion, and visibility of the LGBTQ population and BIPOC youth in Racine, Wisconsin.
